AFTER more than 30 years as partners, the 86-year-old and 68-year-old couple finally exchanged their vows in civil rights before the Office of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes on September 14, 2021.
The civil wedding of Antonio Jayme, 86, and Emperatriz Estenzo-Jayme, 68, was held at the Office of Mayor Cortes.
The couple, in an interview, was very happy to finally say their vows after years of dreaming of getting married.
Emperatriz said they have decided to get married as they are now sure that they are each other’s “THE ONE”.
The couple had their previous relationships and had broken off.
Both are not married in their previous relationships.
After that, when Emperatriz was 35, she crossed paths with Antonio, who was then 53 years old.
They started as friends until Antonio developed feelings for Emperatriz and courted her.
Antonio said he developed some essays for Emperatriz as she is kind to him.
He said Emperatriz is not his first love, but she is her “meant to be”.
Emperatriz said she did not easily say ” Yes” to Antonio as she wanted to see his efforts first.
It took Antonio years for Emperatriz to decide to be his partner.
Emperatriz said she started to develop feelings after seeing the sincerity of Antonio as he was kind and cared for her a lot.
She said they never fought in their relationship, as they enjoyed each other’s company.
And they decided to live under one roof.
The couple said they do not have any children, but Antonio has a child from his previous relationship.
The wedding was witnessed by their nieces and nephews, who also helped them fulfilling this lifelong dream.
In a separate interview, Mayor Cortes admired the decision of the couple to get married despite their age.
Cortes said the important thing for the couple is to fulfill their promises and vows to each other.
He also suggested a church wedding to the couple.
“I am happy for them. It’s a good example to complete the marriage that has a bond and signed a contract for each other,” said Cortes in a mix of Cebuano and English. (KFD)
