THE Bacolod City Government will open 43 vaccination sites for the three-day “Bayanihan Bakunahan” drive of the national government slated this week from December 15 to 17, 2021.
Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF), said yesterday, December 12, that the vaccination sites include those located in the barangays, schools and malls.
Sorongon said the vaccination sites will accommodate those who will avail of the first and second doses of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccines including minors aged 12 to 17 years old as well as those who will avail the booster shots.
He said the target given to Bacolod City by the Department of Health (DOH) is to inoculate 24,000 individuals on that event or at least 8,000 individuals daily.
In the first Bayanihan, Bakunahan from November 29 to December 1, Bacolod City was given a target to administer jabs to 66,000 residents, but it exceeded by vaccinating 70,752 individuals.
Sorongon said the influx of Bacolodnons was amazing, adding that the success of the national vaccination drive can be attributed to the cooperation of barangay officials who urged their constituents to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
EOC-TF records showed, as of December 6, Bacolod City had 68.93 percent of individuals fully vaccinated and 17.82 percent partially vaccinated.
Sorongon said, as of December 12, only 10 percent of the population eligible for vaccination in Bacolod City has not yet been vaccinated.
The city is expecting that before Christmas Eve, the city will reach herd immunity, he said.
“Let us show our support to this program so that we can have our herd immunity before Christmas, let’s cooperate and help our city officials,” the doctor said.
Although Bacolod City remains free from the Omicron variant of Covid-19, Sorongon said this is no time to be complacent.
“Our cases are down (and) the Covid-19 attack rates are consistently on a decline (but the) people should get vaccinated and Bacolodnons must continue to observe minimum health protocols,” Sorongon said.
