Typhoon Odette, the strongest storm to hit the country this year, brought devastation to the Visayas and some parts of Mindanao when it made landfall on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021.
Rama said for now, the Cebu City Government’s vaccination activities will be suspended until further notice so the city can focus all of its resources on the recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
Suspended for the meantime is the holding of the regular Covid-19 vaccination activities being held in various establishments.
For now, Rama said the City will focus on ensuring that they can assist power distributor Visayan Electric in restoring power to their constituents by assisting them in the removal of felled electric posts and tree trunks that were affected during Odette’s onslaught.
Another priority that Rama and members of the City Council led by Vice Mayor Donaldo “Dondon” Hontiveros have is the releasing of the city’s calamity funds in order to provide assistance to affected residents currently living in evacuation centers and those whose homes were affected by the typhoon.
Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, head of the Cebu City Health Department, admitted that at present, it is difficult to implement their vaccination activities as the majority of their constituents are too focused on restoring their lives after the typhoon.
Ibones said for now, they will wait for Rama’s orders before they can resume their regular vaccination activities.
Just before the typhoon, around 736,857 individuals from Cebu City had received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine while 504,394 individuals were already fully vaccinated.
