Guv: Let's keep Tarlac protected

TARLAC Governor Susan Yap has appealed to residents of Tarlac province to get their Covid-19 vaccines as soon as posible and get protected against the virus.

“Kayo po na hindi pa nababakunahan, please punta na tayo sa mga RHUs natin, sa mga bakuna centers at whole day naman po yan. Let us keep Tarlac protected po, napakahalaga,” the governor said.

Yap issued the statement when Philippine Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Greco Belgica and actor Robin Padilla visited the province to get their Covid-19 vaccines.

Padilla thanked the governor for accommodating them in the provicinal government vaccination against Covid-19.

“Maraming salamat po Gov at mayroon akong natagpuang Sinovac [vaccine] dito [sa Tarlac],” the actor said.

Belgica thanked Yap and the provincial government after getting his first dose of Sinovac vaccine in Tarlac.

“First dose po, Sinovac for added protection,” he said.

“Siempre dapat lahat ng bisita natin [sa Tarlac] kailangan protected para hindi magdala dito ng Covid,” Yap said.

Both Padilla and Belgica are running for senator in next year’s polls.

The City of San Fernando continues to promote and implement safe tourism amidst the current global health crisis.

The “Ligligan Parul” will be live-streamed on regional TV network CLTV 36, and committee-managed Facebook pages and other video sharing platforms, Pangilinan added.

Robinsons Starmills Pampanga, the usual venue for the main show and exhibitions, will not be open for physical audiences as everyone is encouraged to watch at the comfort of their homes. While the organizers have yet to issue guidelines, exhibition days will be exclusively for drive-in audiences and no walk-ins will be allowed.

For 2021, seven barangays — Bulaon, Calulut, San Juan, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, Sto. Niño, and Telabastagan — will showcase their masterpieces.

Culture and tradition must go on

Mayor Edwin Santiago, who leads this year’s committee as honorary chairperson, along with Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin as honorary vice chairperson and Roberto Hizon as chairperson, said culture and tradition must go on despite the raging coronavirus crisis.

“May pandemiya man o wala, magpapatuloy ang kultura at tradisyon sa Siyudad San Fernando. Ang gusto natin, maipalaganap ng mga parol natin ang mensahe ng pagmamahal, pag-asa, at pananampalataya. Naging mas makabuluhan pa ito ngayong may krisis,” Santiago said.

Support for giant lantern makers

For his part, Hizon said despite the City Government’s focus on funding its Covid-19 response, funds are still provided for the creation of giant lanterns. These will be used along with the help of private-sector partners and sponsors led by the Robinsons Land Corporation.

“Ang LGU (local government unit) ay naglaan ng pondo para sa pag-repair o pag-ayos ng ating pitong parol. Habang ang Executive Committee naman ay humingi rin ng tulong sa mga pribadong kumpanya at sektor, sa pamamagitan ng solicitation,” he said.

The Giant Lantern Festival is an annual event of the City Government of San Fernando and Giant Lantern Festival Foundation, Inc. lantern-making, in general, earned San Fernando the title “Asia’s Home of the Giant Lanterns” and “Christmas Capital of the Philippines,” and distinction as “2018 Top Tourism Hub in the Philippines.” (JTD)
