Active Covid cases drop as daily tally stays below 20,000

THE Department of Health (DOH) reported over 13,000 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Sunday, October 3, 2021, marking seven consecutive days of less than 20,000 daily infections.

The relatively lower cases also brought the number of active Covid-19 cases down to 112,008, the lowest since the 111,720 recorded more than a month ago on August 19.

The daily positivity rate also declined to 20.2 percent, the lowest since the 19.1 percent on August 7.

The testing output, however, was relatively lower at 64,747 on October 1. Three laboratories were unable to submit their testing data.

In its case bulletin, the DOH reported 13,273 new cases, 112 additional deaths and 45,249 new recoveries.

The new cases brought the cumulative caseload closer to 2.6 million. As of October 3, the Covid-19 case count in the Philippines stood at 2,593,399.

The additional deaths, which included 47 cases reclassified from recoveries, raised the Covid-19 death toll nationwide to 38,768. The case fatality rate decreased to 1.49 percent.

Total recoveries from infection reached 2,442,623, or 94.2 percent of the total caseload.

Among the active cases, 1.1 percent were critical, 2.5 percent were severe, 4.58 percent were moderate, 85.8 percent were mild and 6.1 percent were asymptomatic.

Intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rates remained high at 72 percent nationwide and and 74 percent in the National Capital Region (NCR), where the bulk of Covid-19 cases have been reported. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
