FORMER Bacolod councilor Lyndon CaƱa died in a private hospital in the city on Thursday, November 4, 2021, reportedly due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who heads the local Inter-Agency Task Force, said CaƱa tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. He was unvaccinated against the disease.

As of this writing, CaƱa’s family has yet to confirm whether he indeed succumbed to Covid-19.

Prior to his hospitalization, CaƱa went to Negros Oriental without knowing that one of his companions was infected with Covid-19, he said.

“The city mourns his passing away, and to the family of CaƱa my deepest sympathies and condolences,” Familiaran said.

During that time, he had the most authored ordinances and resolutions and had perfect attendance in his first term.

He capped his stint as a local legislator by having been chosen as one of the 10 Outstanding Councilors of the Philippines for 2006 by the Junior Chamber International Philippines, in partnership with the Philippine Councilor’s League, the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and the Office of the late senator Edgardo Angara.
