2022 starts with over 3,000 Covid cases

MORE than 3,000 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday to kick off year 2022.

Based on the Saturday case bulletin, the DOH said 3,617 new Covid-19 cases were recorded, bringing the total cases in the country to 2,847,486.

The last time the country saw more than 3,000 cases was on November 1, when there were 3,117 new Covid-19 cases.

The positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 14.8 percent among the 29,239 tested samples on December 30.

The DOH also reported 43 additional deaths, raising the total mortalities to 51,545 or a case fatality rate of 1.81 percent.

The health department also reported 468 additional recoveries, which brought the total to 2,778,567.

The DOH said the recovery rate stood at 97.6 percent.

Less deaths and recoveries, there were 17,374 active Covid-19 cases, with over 11,600 being mild cases and more than 3,100 moderate cases. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
